Cala d'Or is the name given to a stretch of development along the east coast that includes a number of coves and resorts (Cala Ferrera, Cala Esmeralda, Cala Serena, Cala Gran & Cala Llonga). Each of the various calas (bays) has its own distinctive character where former fishing harbours have been turned into marinas.
The resort has been sympathetically developed, with plenty of white-washed adobe style buildings and it is one of the nicer resorts along the east coast. People come here to sail, dive and drink champagne at waterfront bars. The coves have charming little beaches that are surrounded by woodland and cliffs. The beaches themselves are pretty small and get very busy during peak holiday season. But if you can bear it, the water is wonderfully clear and inviting, and ideal for swimming on a warm summer's day.
